Gundrak 76-78
Gundrak is the capital of the troll nation of Zun’drak, housing the Drakkari tribe. The Drakkari, in an effort to protect themselves from the Scourge, have slain their own animal gods for a temporary boon of power that will ultimately destroy their civilization. Still, assaulting their stronghold will have you dealing with the beasts and prophets of the slain gods of the Drakkari.
Quests:
All three relevent quests come from Dubra’jin, a small troll outpost just west of Gundrak. “For Posterity” has you collecting Drakkari History Tablets scattered throughout the instance. “Gal’darah Must Pay” tasks you with delivering the head of the final boss of the instance. “One of a Kind” requires a piece of the second boss, the Drakkari Colossus.
Boss Strategies:
Slad’ran, High Prophet of Sseratus
This snake-man has a few powerful nature abilites. His Venom Bolt targets a random group member and puts a moderate DoT on them that must be either cleansed or healed through. He will do a Powerful Bite to supplement his normal melee damage on the tank. He will occasionally summon a large number of non-elite snake and serpent adds that go straight for the healer; the tank and DPS should pick them up and dispatch them quickly. The most damaging ability is his Poison Nova, which is emoted and has a sizable cast time; at this time, all group members, including the tank, should back up about 15 yards from Sseratus, as the Nova will deal a fair amount of immediate poison damage and apply a powerful DoT for sixteen seconds on everyone hit.
Drakkari Colossus
The Drakkari Colossus is really two bosses in one. You start out fighting the Colossus itself, which is a simple tank and spank that nonetheless deals decent damage to the tank. After about 33%, the Drakkari Elemental will surge out of the Colossus and begin attacking (the Colossus will go dormant during this time). The Elemental will occasionally Surge towards a random party member, leaving a trail of purple mojo in its wake that deals a fair amount of damage every second to anyone standing in it. Considering the small size of the platform, it’s imperative that everyone damage the Elemental as fast as possible before you run out of safe places to stand. At around 50% the elemental will return to the Colossus, who will again become active, and the process repeats again until they both kick the bucket.
Moorabi, High Prophet of Mam’toth
In his troll form, Moorabi is not much of a threat. He has a couple attacks that damage the tank for moderate amounts, but that’s about it. Moorabi will often attempt to transform into a mammoth, however, a move that significantly increases his damage and attack speed and grants him a Numbing Roar that does damage to the whole group and slows casting speed, a combination that can severely compromise the healer’s ability to keep the tank alive. Moorabi’s casting of the Transformation spell must consistently be interrupted every time he tries to cast it to prevent him becoming a Mammoth. This is complicated by his Mojo Frenzy ability, which increases his cast speed as his HP depletes, and by the end the cast time will be significantly less than a second and very hard to interrupt; still, as long as you bring him down low enough before he is able to complete the transformation, it’s usually possible to burn him down before it becomes a huge problem.
Gal’darah, High Prophet of Akali
As the prophet of the Rhino, Gal’darah has some strong abilities largely dealing with stampedes and horns. His troll form is a fairly simple tank and spank, though occasionally he will summon a Stampede to do a few thousand damage on a random group member. He also has a simple whirlwind, and throws a spear into a random group member that deals initial damage and a small damage over time effect. The challenge comes when he switches to his rhino form. He will use an Impaling Charge on a random group member, doing some initial damage and a large amount of damage over time, and completely incapacitating the affected group member as they flail about helplessly on Gal’darah’s horn until he throws them off. The biggest worry is that if he impales the healer, it’s highly likely that the healer will not survive, which means a wipe. The healer should take care to stack shields and HoTs on himself in case he is impaled. While Gal’darah is charging about as a rhino, he will also occasionally Stomp, which deals damage to anyone in melee range and throws them back a few yards. Eventually he will go back to his troll form and the process repeats. The healer has the biggest challenge here, as there is a lot of damage going around. As long as he can keep up Gal’darah should fall.
