Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom 73-75
Ahn’kahet is located very near Azjol-Nerub, in the same Pit of Narjun west of Agmar’s Hammer in Dragonblight. Ahn’kahet is slightly harder than Azjol-Nerub, but unless you were a bit underleveled when you first went into Azjol-Nerub, you shouldn’t have many problems taking the same group in here.
Quests:
Conveniently enough, Kilix the Unraveler also gives all the quests for Ahn’kahet as he did with Azjol-Nerub. There are three: “Funky Fungi” has you collected six Grotesque Fungus from Savage Cave Beasts in the instance; “All Things in Good Time” has you pick up the corpse of an Ahn’Kahar watcher in the beginning of the instance that serves as a one hour timer of sorts for you to finish the instance and place the corpse upon a specfic brazier (the time limit is not very difficult to meet at all). Lastly, “The Faceless Ones” is completed merely in the act of defeating the final boss.
Boss Strategies:
Prince Taldaram
To engage Taldaram you must have activated the Nerubian Objects on the two floating platforms near him. When you first engage, the Prince will send a Flame Sphere out to slowly move towards a group member; anyone within an 18 yard radius of this sphere will take damage. Besides this, he will melee the tank for a fair amount until he eventually vanishes, picks a random target and casts Embrace of the Vampyr on him or her. This spell channels 1500 health from the group member to Prince Taldram every 2 seconds for 20 seconds, or until Taldaram takes 20k damage. As you may guess, the best way to deal with this spell is to damage the Prince as quickly as possible when he reappears. As long as everyone avoids the Flame Sphere, Embrace of the Vampyr is all the group really needs to deal with.
Elder Nadox
Nadox himself has only one ability, a simple disease damage over time he puts on the tank. The challenge of the fight comes from the adds he spawns. At all times he summons waves of small, weak, non-elite bugs that can be AoE’d down with ease. Eventually, however, an Ahn’kahar Guardian will spawn, which is an elite that makes all the small bugs immune to damage. All DPS must shift to this Guardian and killing it quickly, then immediately catch up on the small bugs that have spawned before getting on Nadox and repeating the process until he’s worn down.
Jedoga Shadowseeker
Be sure to clear the whole platform that houses Jedoga Shadowseeker before engaging, or else adds will come when you star the fight. As soon as you pull many elites will spawn all around the platform; these should be ignored, as they will not aggro. Jedoga has an obvious, but powerful, AoE spell called Thundershock that everyone should move out of. She will also use Whirlwind, hitting additional melee on her besides the tank. The biggest gimmick of the fight, however, is that every 25% she will fly into the air and one of the elites previously mentioned will start walking slowly to a purple beam in the center of the platform; should he reach the beam, he will be sacrificed and Jedoga will be come enraged, greatly increasing her damage. Highest priority is to kill the Acolyte before it is able to be sacrificed. As long as this is done, and her AoE attacks are moved out of or dealth with, Jedoga will fall.
Herald Volazj
Volazj’s primary attack, besides a fairly powerful melee swing, is a Mind Flay randomly cast on any group member that is easily dealt with. The trick to the fight is that he will often cast Insanity on all group members: when this happens, each group member sees the others as hostile mobs and must kill all four of them. They are fairly weak, but all group members must kill their illusions before the fight can continue. The Herald will likely perform Insanity three or four times during the fight, but as long as everyone knows what is happening and deals with the illusions quickly, there’s not much to the battle.
